The Walk On A Winter's Day

It was probably near 40 degrees when I started a 4.25 mile walk. I was already sick with a cold so I had trouble breathing to begin with.

Within 5 minutes my heart rate began to increase and I found it more difficult to breathe. I also began to sweat and because that pulled more fluid from my bloodstream my heart rate continued to increase. Your heart beats faster trying to make up for the loss of circulating fluid. And mouth breathing in the cold causes the moisture level to be drawn from your mouth.

On top of that I had to pee. That was because my blood pressure went up and made my kidneys produce more urine.

Within that first mile, I was already exhibiting signs of dehydration: Dry, sticky mouth, thirst, headache, dizziness, and muscle weakness. And I was also experiencing heart palpitations.

I had to stop at a gas station to pee, get a drink, and rest. When I went into the restroom my face was as red as if I had been walking in 116 degree temperature.

I was already on my way to a 5% fluid loss. 10% is a medical emergency.

I couldn’t rest for long because it was getting dark and I didn’t want to have to walk by the campgrounds on the shoulder of the road at night. I’d rather die from a heart attack than get hit by a car. That might be too messy and not do the job. Ha!

I don’t know how long the walk took. I don’t know what time it was when I started or when it ended. I just know it was almost dark. I think I then slept for more than 12 hours.

When I woke up to go to the bathroom my legs were cramping and my ankle was hurt. I also felt rather weak and shaky. Probably from the sodium and potassium imbalance. The congestion in my chest was also worse. Now I have wheezing on inspiration and expiration. I don’t know if the walk in the cold temperature did that or if my cold is just following a normal progression on its own.

Anyway I took the time to check the news…and then the time to write this.

It’s really hard being without a car. And on top of that knowing your husband not only has a car but pays to learn to drive a race car. And is trying to buy a race car! Or so he says - on the Internet!

It’s hard not having a home of your own anymore as well.

It’s nice having peace and quiet and privacy residing with your mistress, (the one you name in your Disney you-tube) - isn’t it dear husband of mine?

Never any guilt, Huh? God Bless You!
