False and Misleading

Don Lapre
Remember Don Lapre that annoying TV pitchman and self-proclaimed king of infomercials?

He marketed the "Making Money Package" and then “The Greatest Vitamin in the World".

In June of this year, Lapre was arrested and charged with a multitude of criminal activities relating to his line of businesses.

Putting it simply, Lapre deceived his targeted audience by making false statements about his goods and services - false on their face value and implicitly false; and causing consumers to purchase his goods and services when they would not have otherwise done so had it not been for his misleading advertisement.

Lapre was scheduled to appear in court on October 4, 2011, however police found him dead - his body surrounded by a massive amount of blood. Apparently Lapre had cut himself and bled to death in his cell.

I guess Lapre wasn’t too happy about spending the rest of his life in a jail cell after living in the mansions he bought with consumers hard earned dollars.

I feel sorry for Lapre’s family. Guess he didn’t care enough for them though.

People in this world have enough problems to deal with and most certainly don’t need another con man ripping them off.

Be a consumer watchdog - always be on the lookout for those people out there in the marketplace trying to sell you some goods or services with false and misleading advertising.

Solutions To A Crisis

In 1729, Jonathan Swift wrote “A Modest Proposal”, an essay which suggested that the impoverished people in Ireland could solve their economic problems by selling their children to wealthy aristocrats. Swift describes the plight of starving beggars in Ireland, offers a solution to the crisis, and supports his arguments.

Anyone not familiar with "A Modest Proposal" will be left in a state of shock as they read Swift's solution to the problem.

"A young healthy child, well nursed, is, at a year old, a most delicious nourishing and wholesome food, whether stewed, roasted, baked, or boiled; and I make no doubt that it will equally serve in a fricassee, or a ragout."

Since I participate in writing prompts, I felt compelled to do a satirical essay on how the Obama Administration can take steps to make healthcare reform more efficient and cost effective. While my essay is not as shocking as Swift’s, I thought I came up with a few surprise solutions.

Then I started thinking that my solutions were not so far-fetched after all - and that I should look at what newspapers to send it to. After I send it out, I will publish it here.

After writing outlines with three subject matters in mind - "Domestic Abusers", "Adultery", and "The Morals of a Mistress" - I am preparing to write the satirical essays, presenting my solutions with solid arguments - on these societal dilemmas.

My expertise, if you will, on these subject matters, comes from my first-hand knowledge and experience.
